A nutrient-rich, gluten-free grain known for its slightly nutty flavour and firm texture. Compared to white quinoa, it holds its shape better after cooking, making it ideal for salads, grain bowls, and side dishes. Packed with protein, fibre, and essential amino acids, red quinoa is a popular choice for those seeking a healthy, plant-based source of nutrition.
Quinoa originates from the Andean region of South America, where it has been cultivated for over 5,000 years. The Incas considered it a sacred "mother grain" and a staple of their diet. Today, Bolivia, Peru, and Ecuador remain the top producers, supplying red quinoa to global markets.
