Typically referred to as "pasta bows" but in Italian, it means “butterfly” but how do you pronounce the name? Its “far-FA-lay” with an emphasis on the middle syllable gives a typical Italian pronunciation.
This type of pasta dates back to the 1500s, originating in Northern Italy in the Emilia-Romagna and Lombardia regions. Recipes often feature creamy or other sauces featuring cheeses such as alfredo sauce, and due to this shape’s larger size, can be served hot like classic pasta or chilled as a pasta salad.
Cooking InstructionsAdd pasta to a large open pan of boiling salted water, bring back to the boil and simmer for 7 minutes, stirring occasionally. Drain and serve.
